“Pride of Niner Nation” Marching Band Reveals New Logo
UNC Charlotte’s very own “Pride of Niner Nation” Marching Band (PNNMB) wowed Charlotte 49ers fans with spectacular uniforms, electrifying music and crowd-pleasing formations during its debut in 2015. Now the band is ready to unveil yet another piece of the puzzle. “We’ve crossed another significant milestone,” says UNC Charlotte’s Director of Athletic Bands, Dr. Jeffrey Miller. “In 2015, we worked very hard to develop an identity on campus and within the community and we’re now proud to reveal a new graphic identity that is befitting of our outstanding ensemble.”
The creation of something as symbolic as a logo is no small task. “A team of university officials worked together closely to develop an image that, in a very unique way, unites the proud legacy of the Niner Nation with the excitement of our new marching band,” said Miller. The logo was designed by Rickabaugh Graphics, which is one of the leading design firms in the collegiate market. It features the marching band’s contemporary uniform, which incorporates the iconic pick-axe of the Charlotte 49ers athletic logo, along with the words “Niner Nation” a typeface that longtime 49ers fans are sure to recognize.
“The professionalism of Eric Rickabaugh and his team of designers is second to none,” Miller stated. “We are so pleased with the design and are excited to keep building new traditions.”
The “Pride of Niner Nation” Marching Band will continue to deliver outstanding performances at Charlotte home football games, in exhibition at local high school marching band competitions and in the Novant Health Thanksgiving Day Parade in the 2016 season. The band is comprised of 160 students from all academic majors at UNC Charlotte and will be representing the United States in June 2018 as the only American Band to perform in D-Day ceremonies in Normandy, France.
