Support the Band
The “Pride of Niner Nation” Marching Band debuted in the Fall of 2015 with a unique pre-game show and exciting half-time performances. Today, it boasts over 170 members, energizing the crowd at football games with cheers for crucial plays, the fight song after every touchdown, and, the UNC Charlotte Alma Mater after every home game. The 49ers Basketball Band supports both men’s and women’s teams, traveling to annual conference games, including the NCAA basketball tournament.
The Department of Music aims to provide scholarships for as many band members as possible, striving to make participation at little to no cost for all students. We need your support to achieve these goals! See different opportunities for giving, below.
Scholarships
Scholarships show our students that we value the hard work and dedication they show to Niner Nation every year. This money allows students to attend rehearsals without fear of missing the income they could have by working an evening job. Ultimately, scholarships show students that we are just as invested in their success as they are in ours.
Discretionary Funds
The band relies upon a general discretionary fund to support operating budget expenses not sufficiently covered by other funds. Areas of support include uniforms, instruments, marching shoes, travel expenses, gameday meals, and much more!
Endowment Funds
We are proud that many of our most loyal supporters have generously established permanent endowments that will provide funding for band scholarships. The Vickie and Gene Johnson Marching Band Scholarship, the Fischer Family Scholarship, the Williams Dahnert Marching Band Scholarship, the Barnhardt Marching Band Endowment, and the Frank E. Wampler, Jr. “Pride of Niner Nation” Marching Band Endowment are examples of endowed funds that provide scholarships for active members.
I have the Belk Performing Arts scholarship, the Marching Band scholarship, and the Vickie and Gene Johnson marching band scholarship. All of these scholarships really help me when it comes to taking job opportunities and in my grad school preparation.
