As the “Pride of Niner Nation” Marching Band approaches our second season, we introduce you to our drum majors; Quinten Wrenn, Madelyn Colby and Bryce Harris.

Quinten Wrenn, Head Drum Major

Quinten Wrenn, Head Drum MajorQuinten is a junior from Monroe, North Carolina, and is studying music education at UNC Charlotte. He graduated from Parkwood High School, and was drum major of the Parkwood “Marching Rebel Regiment” for two years. A euphonium player, Quinten has served as principal euphonium for the UNC Charlotte Wind Ensemble and as the ensemble’s manager.

Serving as a brass, visual and drum major/leadership instructor, Quinten is active in the marching arts. “I am pumped for the coming season,” says Quinten. “We accomplished so much in our inaugural year, and we are on the right path to keep pushing and making UNC Charlotte proud.”

Madelyn Colby, Assistant Drum Major

Madelyn Colby, Assistant Drum MajorMadelyn is a junior from Concord, North Carolina, and is studying communications at UNC Charlotte. She intends to concentrate in public relations and minor in women’s & gender studies. Madelyn graduated from Concord High School, and was drum major of the Concord “Marching Spiders” for two years. She likes to play all types of flutes (piccolo, soprano, bass), and loves ice cream, working out, weight lifting and rollerblading.

“Marching band is where I go to be at home,” says Madelyn. “I didn’t have a niche until I joined marching band in high school, and it has proven to be even more of a blessing to me here at UNC Charlotte.” As a transfer student in the spring 2015 semester, Madelyn says that band beginning that fall was the perfect time to realize the real reason she loves UNC Charlotte. “The professors and classes are so important, but the PNNMB is what continues to provide me with experiences and memories that I will carry with me forever.”

Bryce Harris, Assistant Drum Major

Bryce Harris, Assistant Drum MajorBryce is a junior from Rocky Mount, North Carolina, and is studying music performance at UNC Charlotte. He graduated from Northern Nash High School, and served as alto saxophone section leader of the Northern Nash “Marching Knights” his senior year. As a saxophonist, Bryce enjoys performing in a variety of settings.

“PNNMB’s inaugural year was spectacular,” says Bryce. “It’s refreshing and amazing to play alongside students with different backgrounds and majors than mine. I’m eager to bring my experience and personality to the band while working with Quinten and Madelyn.”

Chosen through audition, drum majors serve as the field conductors of the marching band, leading in practice and performance. It is both a great honor and a great responsibility to be named drum major. We wish Quinten, Madelyn, Bryce and the “Pride of Niner Nation” Marching Band success in their upcoming second season!
