UNC Charlotte Appoints Director of Athletics Bands
The UNC Charlotte Department of Music is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Jeffrey Miller as its inaugural Associate Director of Bands / Director of Athletics Bands. Dr. Miller will join the UNC Charlotte faculty in fall 2014 and will be responsible for directing the 49er Basketball Band, conducting the Symphonic Band, teaching a course in marching band techniques, and planning UNC Charlotte’s new marching band. He will direct the marching band when it takes the field in fall 2015.
Dr. Miller enjoyed a successful career as a high school band director in Florida before attending Florida State University for a master’s degree and a Ph.D. in music education. At Florida State, he served as a graduate teaching assistant for the university athletic and concert bands while studying arranging and marching band drill design with Patrick Dunnigan. Dr. Miller is currently the interim assistant band director at the University of Colorado at Boulder, where he serves as the assistant director of the Golden Buffalo Marching Band.
“Dr. Miller has led outstanding bands at both the high school and college level,” says Dr. Jay Grymes, interim chair of the UNC Charlotte Department of Music. “He has the experience, enthusiasm and expertise to build a first-rate athletics band program at UNC Charlotte.”
The 49er Drumline will perform for UNC Charlotte football games in the 2014 season.
